Buryatia is republic of Russian Federation in south-eastern Siberia on the eastern shore of the deepest lake in the world Baikal.
Its truly beautiful. There are all the types of landscapes in Buryatia: the worlds cleanest and biggest fresh water container lake Baikal, snowy mountains Sayany, square kilometers of taiga, bright steppes. The Buryats honour Baikal as a holy lake. It's connected with traditional beliefs and shamanism which prospered here earlier but even now are much spread and still important for inhabitants. Buryatian culture and language are closely connected with the halha-Mongolians (the inner Mongolians), the main ethnic group of modern Mongolia. Living within the Christian orthodox state and near Muslim countries, though Buryatia is one of three Buddhist republics in Russia. To be more precise, Buryatia is a buddhist-shaman republic.
The square of Buryatia is like the square of Germany but the whole population of Buryatia is 980 000 people. In comparison the population of Germany is more than 82 mio people. Imagine how empty it is!
The Volunteer Summer School will take place in the villages of Buryatia - Mikhaylovka and Yengorboy.
