Mikhaylovka on GoogleMaps
Mikhaylovka is the half Slavic Russian and half Buryat village with the population of about 1000 inhabitants.
There is one school there with about 300 students. These children never went abroad, they cannot even imagine that they will ever visit Europe or US, for example. This is like a different planet, this is about TV not about them. The farest way they did is the capital of the republic of Buryatia Ulan-Ude which is like 350 km from the village and about 6 hours by car.
The aim of the Volunteer summer school in Buryatia 2009 is on the one hand to promote higher education among local children, to show them that education is the way to make change in their lives and life of their homeland.
On the other hand I hope that coming as a volunteer to such a place will also broaden your mind.
And this is the main idea of the School - Make change - educate yourself and others.
